AUDITIONS
San Francisco’s premier coed a cappella group, Scales of the City, is holding auditions for the 2020 season! If you are a singer who has a heart for performing, enjoys challenging yourself musically, and loves to have fun doing it with others, then you are who we are looking for! Interested singers must be available to attend the majority of rehearsals (75%), and sing at the annual end of the year concert in November. In addition, there will be opportunities to perform at various events throughout the season and participate in fun social events. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30pm in San Francisco's Hayes Valley district, with a few additional specially set rehearsals and sectionals. Depending on your process, you may need to spend a little time outside of rehearsal learning music. We are also an all-volunteer group, meaning that our members contribute in various ways to sustain the group. What this looks like varies depending on interest and ability. For some people in the group, this includes arranging music, directing rehearsal, or leading sectionals. And many of us contribute through non-musical tasks like reserving venues, updating our website, promoting events on social media, or setting up chairs and sound equipment for an event. If you are interested, please follow these steps. Step 1: Record a video or audio clip of yourself singing in a cappella a verse and chorus of a song of your choice. It is recommended that you select a song that gives us a good idea of your range and versatility. In the clip, tell us your name and the voice part that you are auditioning for. You can submit it by uploading the file to Google Drive and sharing it with [email protected], or by e-mailing the file to [email protected] by Saturday, February 15, 2020 to be considered for an in-person audition and callback. Step 2: We will notify you via email If you are invited for an in-person audition on Tuesday, February 18th. The Music Team will lead you through a number of vocal exercises that assesses your pitch, intonation, rhythm, range, and music reading. Step 3: After the in-person audition, we will inform you if you will be invited to a final callback on Wednesday, February 19th. There, you will meet the group, tell us about yourself, learn one of our songs, and sing it with us! Final decisions will be made shortly thereafter. |
